Acapulco enjoys millions of visitors a year, but has only been in the tourist business for 50 years. While Europe was rebuilding after World War II, Acapulco's true potential was recognized. Acapulco had 200 hotels by 1964 when the first authorized jet aircraft landed. The planes haven't stopped landing since then and the tourist trade has soared ever since.
