  • El tourism Consulting Council will promote the coordination of cross efforts between the Federal Government entities to take on the challenges facing the touristic activity in our country and to launch it as a motor of social and economic development.
  • Participating in this session are the heads and representatives of the Ministries of Government, National Defense, Navy, Economy, Environment, Treasury, Public Safety, Public Function, Social Development, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs, as well as the entrepreneurs of the field, with whom strategic themes were discussed to make Mexico a more competitive country.
  • The Federal Executive gave his absolute backing to the touristic activity in our country as this government’s priority because it represents a jobs and development generating source.

From the “Los Pinos” official residence, the chief executive welcomed the heads and representatives of the Ministries of Tourism (SECTUR), Government (SEGOB), National Defense (SEDENA), Navy (SEMAR), Economy (SE), Environment (SEMARNAT), Treasury (SHCP), Public Safety (SSP), Public Function (SFP), Social Development (SEDESOL), Agriculture (SAGARPA) and Foreign Affairs (SRE), as well as the entrepreneurs of the field, with whom strategic themes were discussed to make Mexico a more competitive country.

“I have taken on the commitment that during my administration tourism will turn into a platform of progress, to that effect; this consulting council contributes to the express proposal of turning tourism into a priority. Thanks to instruments such as this, I know we will continue to create more, better jobs and we will continue to show our visitors the best of our culture and our natural resources, the president emphasized.

It is worth noting that the Tourism Consulting Council is installed responding to specific demands of the country’s touristic industry and to a firm commitment assumed by the president, deriving from the last meeting of the Tourism Inter-Secretary Commission of March 6, 2007.

“With the Tourism Consulting Council I install today, we advance another step towards the safe, just and competitive Mexico we want for today’s and tomorrow’s generations and for all” the chief executive added.

In this context, it is recognized that the touristic activity, due to its transversality and amplitude, requires the efforts of the Chief Executive branch, through its ministries and entities, to be consistent with its work programs and joint actions

“We have heard here proposals on diverse themes on the part of the touristic sector, the activity must be compatible with the environment and those investment-generating projects must be stirred up, though not at the cost of damage to the ecosystems of the touristic areas of the country. We must equally expedite the mechanisms to apply the zero-tax-rate to conventions and congresses; speed up the touristic air-bound flows permitting increased numbers of tourists coming into our country” President Calderón highlighted.

Under these terms the Tourism Consulting Council, turns into the ideal platform to solve the challenges posed by the development of the touristic activity, allowing the promotion of investors confidence, generating incentives for greater investments, as well as the definition of public policies permitting the inclusion of greater social benefits, within the frame of regional development, stemming from the touristic activity itself to the general population.

For his part, the Minister of Tourism, Rodolfo Elizondo Torres celebrated the installation of this Consulting Council.

“I want to emphasize the very close collaboration and teamwork within the Federal Government president Felipe Calderón has set up to make the best of tourism’s opportunities.
