México.- With the support of various federal entities, the  CD “Mexico’s Natural and Cultural Diversity” was designed encompassing data, maps, graphics and index cards on the Mexican heritage on these fields.

Maps of the Mexican Republic illustrated with vignettes and encased in regions according to different subjects, among them: indigenous towns, natural diversity, ancient cultures and indigenous dishes.

“Mexico’s Natural and Cultural Diversity” is a CD is directed at those interested in knowing more and re-visiting Mexico from various perspectives.

The CD compiles information on indigenous peoples that inhabit the Mexican territory, their lifestyles, traditions, gastronomy, their geographic locations, economic activities, social structure, language and beliefs among other aspects.

This CD highlights a gallery of pictures where you can see the physical features, costumes and habitat of the inhabitants of these towns. The richest section of the disk, though, is that one integrated by fragments of their music and traditional narrative.

The Natural Diversity map displays information on natural protected areas, critical zones, rivers, and plant and animal species that constitute the country’s biodiversity.

Each element is accompanied by various graphics and an informative index card with general detail on the physical environment and climate.

This section emphasizes the conservation of the earth’s ecosystems and natural protected areas, their diversity of flora and fauna and why it stands out on a worldwide level.

In addition to the above, the disk offers a map of Mexican Ancient Cultures, offering the researcher a general panorama of the cultural legacy of pre-Columbian civilizations.

Ancient cultures can be researched either alphabetically of through displayable menus. Among other fields, information is found on Mexican ceremonial centers and archaeological sites officially recognized to the date.

The disk’s interface is user-friendly, permitting the public to access very diverse information through indexes and displayable windows, navigating almost solely by intuition.

For a more efficient research, themes are interrelated in a way that users can follow random routes with a wide margin of interactivity in their search.

The disks main menu offers five main application subjects: a brief presentation; a contents index; a search section; sponsor credits and exit. A comprehensive bibliography is also included for further and deeper research of the chapters.

The interactive CD “Mexico’s Natural and Cultural Diversity” was produced with the collaboration of the Centro de Educación y Capacitación para el Desarrollo Sustentable (Center for Education on Sustainable Development), and the Dirección General de Culturas Populares e Indígenas (General Direction for Popular and Indigenous Cultures), the  Comisión Nacional para el Desarrollo de los Pueblos Indígenas (National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples), the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (National Institute of Anthropology and History), and the University of Colima.

It can be purchased through the the Educal bookstores system and the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (National Council for Culture and the Arts).

México stands out among the Latin American countries for its vast biological and cultural richness, as recognized by experts.

The preservation of such wealth can only be made possible if public is made aware of all information on those resources and how to better profit from them, sustainably.
