Mazatlan, in some respects, is like taking a trip back to the fifties. By this we mean that the people of the city are friendly, they cherish their families, the children are dressed in their school uniforms and mostly, they value their "honor". Amongst the Mexicans on the golf course, it is not unusual to play even-up - you see, it is a matter of honor not to take strokes. A father and mother are honored by their children and the parents are dishonored by the acts of their offspring. Handshake deals are still done among the businessmen.
If you are lucky enough to be invited to a Mexican home for dinner, you will be treated like royalty. You will be fed first if there are not enough chairs for everyone at the table. You will be entertained and pleasantly amazed at their generousity. They call few people their "friends" (many acquaintences, though) and truly cherish those friendships and would go without rather than see their friend in need.
The atmosphere is very laid-back in Mazatlan, but it won't take long to relax and join the pace.
