The Cabo San Lucas area of the Baja Peninsula has undergone many changes in the past few years. The area has become a destination for travelers from around the globe looking for great golf, fishing and relaxation. It is probably best compared to the Palm Springs area when it began its tremendous growth.
The area boasts four new world-class golf courses, with three more currently under construction. According to the planning council, the area will have a total of fifteen courses by the year 2004. Many of the name hotels have sites in the area, either built, under construction or in the planning stages. The Mexican government put many pesos in the infrastructure of the area, including a new highway connecting Cabo San Lucas with San Jose. It is this "corridor" that is receiving the bulk of the development.
The terrain is desert and the climate is wonderful. The waters of the Sea of Cortez are blue and waiting. The city has shops and restaurants of every kind and is host to cruise ships stopping to enjoy the area. Prices in Cabo are higher than other parts of Mexico, due primarily to the shipping required to get the products to the tip of the peninsula and to the dollar-driven economy from the foreign residents and visitors.
